Network Templates¶
The intial Use Case for Mondrian Diagram Templates is to standardize the definition of Network Viewpoints.
L1 Network Viewpoint¶
The following diagram defines the L1 network configuration for one server connected to two switches.
The Server and Switches are defined using Prescribed Nodes and typically would be selected from the list of Predefined Elements. However, the interfaces between the nodes are defined using an Interface Template and so is the definition that the two interfaces are bonded via the LACP protocol.
Cables, Connectors & Tranceivers¶
The physical connection between two IT devices is established via a Cable, which is using a Connector to connect into a Tranceiver. There are many combinations possible where the selection is determined by requirements such as the needed bandwidth, the distance between the devices, the environmental characteristics and options provided by the connected devices.
The Interface Template for L1 Connections supports the definition of such a connection between two nodes. The standard template will configure the connection, with 9 initial data attributes.
The template is created with guidance taken from the ISO/IEC 11801 standard. This standard specifies general-purpose telecommunication cabling systems that are suitable for a wide range of applications. It covers both copper cabling and optical fibre cabling.
Among other things, the standard defines a color code for the various cables. These colors are defined as Mandatory Settings in the Template. The other attributes are included as illustration, but can be changed to the actual values:
